What started out as a small operation has over the decades become a company with an international scope of action that is deeply rooted in the region. Woerle, one of Austria‘s most important cheese-makers, is still managed by the owners. The company‘s popular “Happy Cow” brand includes processed, natural, semi-hard or fresh cheese pro- ducts that are exported to some 70 countries throughout the world.

The major part of the milk processed by Woerle is provided by regional farmers grazing their cattle on the region‘s lush green pastures according to traditional methods. How the happy cows became the happy cow

Woerle boasts a long tradition of exporting the nest Salzburg cheese to foreign lands. In the early 20th cen- tury
Johann Woerle rst delivered hard and semi-hard cheese to his numerous customers around Europe. When processed cheese was discovered in Switzerland in 1929, marketed as “Cheese fondue to go”, Woerle found
immediate success with this novel product. That same year he commissioned a processed cheese plant to be
erected in Henndorf am Wallersee, forming an important cornerstone for today’s international success of the family-run company.
50 years later, Woerle processed cheese is exported to 15 di erent countries, including several in the Middle East.

Quality is a top priority at Woerle

Quality and transparency are two of WOERLE‘s topmost princi- ples. Successful implementation of high quality requirements is certi ed by independent experts. The company‘s focus in this context is mainly on food safety and product quality. The company is certi ed according to the IFS Food Standard recognised by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). The “International Food Standard” (IFS) is an important quality label for audits of food manufacturers and companies packaging loose food. In this respect, compliance with food regulations, more e cient use of resources and independent audits by SGS (SGS Austria Controll-Co GesmbH) play an important role. WOERLE is also certi ed as ORGANIC, NON-GMO (genetically unmodi ed) and HALAL according to the strict IIDZ regulations, and implements.
